I know it’s still difficult for me as an older person to have any real understanding why anyone would do horrible things. There isn’t a cell in my body that understands that. When it comes to the lack of support, I hold grace for many individual educators who are completely stretched to their limits and undersupported themselves in our overcrowded and underfunded school system. This makes it even more dangerous for quiet kids like Maisa. But holding compassion for individuals in a broken system doesn't change the fact that it is broken, and its blind spots have devastating consequences for our most vulnerable children.
